Welcome! Here you will find all of my prayer letters written ever since I started the ministry as a Missionary to Honduras, and then as I now am as a Missionary to the Spanish-Speaking People of the Americas. We hope to update this with our current prayer letter that we send out every two months.

November - December 2006

[NOTE: I DID NOT SEND OUT A PRAYERLETTER IN NOV. - DEC. 2006.  INSTEAD, I SENT OUT THIS LETTER WITH MY JANUARY 2007 MY PRAYER LETTER.  IT WAS WRITTEN IN RESPONSE TO MANY MINISTERS, WHO VIOLENTLY ATTACKED US, WRITING TO CLAIM MY WIFE'S SALVATION WASN'T GENUINE.  THEY WANTED TO BELIEVE SHE WAS ALREADY SAVED (BECAUSE SHE MADE A PROFESSION AT AN EARLY AGE, BUT WITH NO UNDERSTANDING).  SOME EVEN TOLD US SHE WAS SAVED BUT "JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT."  ANOTHER SAID I WAS GUILTY OF PREACHING A "NEW-FANGLED GOSPEL" BECAUSE I MADE SUCH AN EMPHASIS ON THE BLOOD OF JESUS.  IT WAS A REAL EYE OPENER TO ME TO SEE SUCH APOSTASY WITHIN THE RANKS OF INDEPENDENT BAPTISTS, WHO CLAIM TO LOVE TO SEE PEOPLE SAVED WHEN THEY ARE OUT IN THE WOLRD, BUT HATE TO SEE LOST PEOPLE WHO'VE BEEN IN THEIR CHURCHES ALL OF THEIR LIVES GET TRULY BORN AGAIN.  IT REALLY SHOWED ME THE RAMPANT SHALLOW EVANGELISM NOW WITHIN OUR INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCHES, IN WHICH THEY PUT THE EMPHASIS ON THE WORDS FROM THE MOUTH INSTEAD OF FAITH FROM THE HEART.  MANY TODAY ONLY PRESSURE A SINNER TO SIMPLY REPEAT A PRAYER WITH THE LIPS, AND THEN THEN PROCLAIM THEM SAVED, EVEN THOUGH THE SINNERS OFTENTIMES HAS NEVER HEARD THE GOSPEL AND HAS NOT REPENTED, i.e. BELIEVED THE GOSPEL FROM THEIR HEART.  THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM IN OUR DAY AND ONE THAT MANY MINISTERS REFUSE TO ADRESS.  BUT IT MUST BE ADRESSED, FOR THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE GOING TO HELL FOR LACK OF UNDERSTANDING AND SALVATION.
WHAT'S WORSE WAS MY HOME CHURCH ATTACKED US AS WELL, LABELLING MY WIFE A RETREAD AND ME A RETREADER, (WHAT EVER THAT MEANS, FOR IT'S NOT FOUND IN THE BIBLE), AND CLAIMED I HAD DECEIVED MY WIFE AND TALKED HER OUT OF HER SALVATION, GETTING HER SAVED ALL OVER AGAIN. (SOMETHING WHICH IS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE, FOR IF A PERSON IS TRULY SAVED, THEY CAN NEVER LOSE IT, OR GET IT ALL OVER AGAIN.  BUT IF THEY ARE LOST TO BEGIN WITH, THEN THEY CAN BE BORN AGAIN).  TO US IT WAS WAS CLEARLY THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD THAT WORKED UPON THE HEART OF MY WIFE AND SHOWED HER HER LOST CONDITION AND NEED FOR SALVATION.  BUT FOR THE REASON GIVEN ABOVE, WE HAD TO SEPARATE FROM AND LEAVE OUR OLD HOME CHURCH AND WE JOINED OURSELVES TO GRACE BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH IN MONTERREY, MEXICO, IN INDEPENDENT, SOUL WINNING, STREETPREACHING, BIBLE BELIEVING CHURCH THAT PUTS OUT THE RIGHT SPANISH BIBLE -- THE VALERA 1602 PURIFIED. WE FEEL CONFIDENT WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.  BUT WE ARE GREATLY SADDENED AT THE DIVISION IN THE INDEPENDENT BAPTIST MOVEMENT AND THE SHALLOW EVANGELISM WHICH LEADS TO MANY FALSE CONVERTS, WHO IF THEY DO GET SAVED LATER GET LAMBLASTED AND RIDICULED BEING LABELLED AS "RETREADS".  WE FURTHER SEE A REAL NEED TO PREACH THE GOSPEL MORE CLEARLY, AS WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THERE MAY BE MANY MORE OUT THERE LIKE MY WIFE WHO THINK THEY ARE SAVED BY AREN'T.  IT IS OUR PRAYER THAT THEY WILL HEAR THE GOSPEL AND TRUST THE BLOOD ALONE FOR SALVATION.  FOR FAITH IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS THE ONLY MEANS OF SALVATION (ROM. 3:25), AND IS SADLY SOMETHING THAT IS QUITE OFTEN LEFT OUT OF MANY MODERN SOUL WINNERS PRESENTATIONS.]

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord,

When I entered the ministry in 1998, I never thought that the greatest hindrance would be other Christians.  Nor did I think for a minute that other men of God, that I respected and appreciated, would lie, slander, and gossip about me, labeling me a heretic and a dissident.  But so are the days of apostasy in which we live.  I listened when my pastor told me, “The people that will hurt you most in the ministry are other Christians,” but I found it hard to believe.  Now I know that it’s absolute truth.
I’ve recently been accused by other brethren of teaching, “A man doesn’t have to call upon the name of the Lord to be saved.”  But nothing could be farther from the truth!  I believe that for a sinner to be saved, he must call upon the name of the Lord.  And, this calling must be BY FAITH FROM THE HEART!  2 Timothy 2:22 clearly shows that calling upon the Lord is a heart belief when it speaks of, “them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
This calling must also be “in truth.” (See Psalm 145:18).  Biblically, salvation is by GRACE through FAITH (Eph. 2:8,9) in the SHED BLOOD of our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 3:25).  The following three verses (which I learned in Bible Institute) prove this:

Rom 3:24  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Rom 3:28  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Rom 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Clearly justification or salvation is by God’s GRACE through our FAITH in His shed BLOOD.  We see this also in Romans 3:25: “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.”
Therefore, the object of our faith must be the shed BLOOD of Jesus Christ.  However, I’ve seen a lot of shallow soul winning in these last days, in which many so-called soul winners don’t put any emphasis on THE BLOOD of Christ at all.  Instead, they follow the modernistic BLOODLESS GOSPEL, which puts all the emphasis on the prayer of the sinner, claiming THE PRAYER is what saves a man.  Let me dogmatically state I am not against anyone saying a prayer!  But, I am against telling someone that their prayer is what saves them instead of their faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
Far too many today do a shoddy job of presenting the Gospel clearly, and instead jump straight to Romans 10:13, telling a sinner he must call upon God from his mouth.  Many times, they command the sinner to repeat a prayer.  But what happens if the sinner repeats the prayer from his head and not his heart?  Is he saved?
I quote Dr. John R. Rice in his pamphlet “What Must I do to be Saved?”:

Many people believe that a sinner cannot be saved without a period of prayer, without consciously calling upon God.  However, the Bible does not say that a sinner must pray in order to be saved.  In fact, immediately following the verse in Romans 10:13 is an explanation which shows that calling on God is an evidence of faith in the heart and that it is really faith which settles the matter…The Lord encourages the sinner to pray, and the Lord hears and answers the sinner’s prayer if that sinner trusts in Jesus Christ for salvation when he prays… Certainly everyone who is to be saved must believe.  Prayer is evidence of faith.  No matter how long he prays, if he does not trust in Christ, he can never be saved.  If he trusts in Christ without conscious prayer, then he is saved already.  There is just one plan of salvation and just one step a sinner must take to secure it.  That step is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!

Here Mr. Rice states exactly what I believe.  I believe a person is saved by FAITH FROM HIS HEART whether he utters a prayer from his lips or not!  Biblically, a person is saved at the moment he believes or TRUSTS according to Ephesians 1:13, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.”
Let me reiterate.  I’m not against anyone saying a prayer! (Even though this is what some are accusing me of).  But I’m against telling a person that a PRAYER is what SAVES HIM.  Sure, a person can trust Christ as their Saviour in prayer.  But the actual prayer itself does not save anyone!  Dr. Peter S. Ruckman even states the following in his commentary on the book of Romans, “It is obvious that the mere act of praying saves no one…[but] practically speaking it’s good for a sinner to pray when he gets saved.”
I firmly believe this! A person can be saved WHEN he prays, but not BY his prayer.  This is why I’m quick to point out the damage that can be done by not clearly presenting the Gospel to lost sinners. Far too often in this Laodicean church age, we have people going around quoting Romans 10:13 without first explaining the Gospel, and without showing the person that FAITH in the shed blood of Jesus Christ is what saves.  Instead of instructing the sinner to REPENT i.e. call upon God by trusting his finished work on the cross, they pressure the sinner to quickly REPEAT a ritualistic prayer.  Often times the sinner gets confused, thinking the THE ACTUAL PRAYER is what saves him.  (This happened to my wife and many others).  This is the epitome of SHALLOW EVANGELISM!  For this can leave a person nothing more than a spiritual catholic, who thinks a mystical PRAYER from his lips grants him forgiveness rather than FAITH from his heart in the atoning work of Christ on the cross.  In short, this can leave a sinner utterly lost, with his faith in a PRAYER rather than faith in God’s PROPITIATIONARY BLOOD ATONEMENT.  (And oftentimes it makes a person repeat the prayer every night over and, each time hoping they'll be saved because they said the prayer).
I quote Pastor Ron Ralph in his book, “Bible Basics for Bible Believers:”

I strongly encourage you to NEVER lead someone in a ‘repeated prayer.’  If the Holy Spirit of God is dealing with someone about salvation, and that person is serious about being saved, he or she should be able to pray in their own words…allow them to pour their own heart out to God!

This is very wise.  We should do the work of CLEARLY presenting the Gospel of 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, and then let the Holy Spirit deal with the sinner’s heart.  Sure, we can encourage a sinner to pray.  But we should never tell him that the prayer in and of itself will save him!  He must believe from his heart!  Let the words of God do the work of God in his heart.  And let him call upon God by faith when he is ready.
The problem is that most soul winners are more interested today in numbers than they are in conversions.  They are trained to get a person to repeat a prayer as quickly as possible, so that they can then go away and brag about themselves and how many they’ve won to the Lord.
No doubt some of these people really do get saved.  But I believe a good many of them have only made an intellectual decision rather than a heartfelt conversion of FAITH in Christ.
Pastor Doug Schorne makes the outstanding claim in his book, “Zeal without Knowledge:”

I honestly believe that thousands upon thousands have been deceived into a false profession of faith by well-meaning soulwinners who have been pushed and shamed into getting their quota of baptisms for the week.

If this be the case, what’s lacking is a CLEAR PRESENTATION of the Gospel, and AN EXPLAINATION of how to call upon the Lord by FAITH from one’s heart.
I recently butted heads with a real heretic who told me that calling upon the Lord means calling “only from one’s MOUTH,” and, “if a person doesn’t say anything with their mouth, they are not saved!”
He based his assumption on Romans 10:10, claiming that “confession is made unto salvation,” means that the ACTUAL PRAYER is what makes a man saved.
This strong emphasis of salvation based upon what a person says instead of what a person believes in is foreign to the scriptures.  According to the entire context of Romans chapter ten, a person is saved by FAITH from his heart, not by something spoken from his mouth.  This heretical twisting of the scriptures is what I’m against, as it usually leaves a sinner thinking he is saved by A PRAYER HE SAID, rather than by FAITH IN THE BLOOD GOD SHED!
This same man further stated that a person can be saved without even hearing the Gospel first.  In other words, he can simply call on God with his mouth and words, asking God to save him, and then God will save him apart from SAVING FAITH from his HEART.  I do not believe this.  A person must first HEAR the Gospel, for “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”   And then he must BELIEVE from his heart, not his head, for salvation.
Biblically, a person cannot be saved until they first hear and understand the Gospel.  No matter how many times a sinner calls with his mouth, he is not saved until he calls upon God by faith from his heart.  This is a simple Bible truth.
People can be saved WHEN they pray, but not BY their prayer.  A person MUST TRUST THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST before God will give him eternal life.  It is a damnable heresy to tell a person that a PRAYER will give him eternal life.  Sadly, I’ve found that many so-called Fundamental, Independent Baptists today ARE DOING JUST THAT!  In their zeal for numbers, they’ve compromised the Gospel and changed it into getting a man to DO something rather than instructing that man to simply TRUST (call by faith from the heart) in what Christ Jesus already DID for him on the cross over 2000 years ago.
Thus, to say that I believe a man should not call upon the Lord is completely untrue.  I do believe a man should heartily call upon the Lord, and this calling must be BY FAITH from the heart in the PRECIOUS SHED BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST!  Sure this heart belief can be manifested in a prayer.  But the prayer itself is not the saving medium.  Faith alone from the heart is what saves a man!
I’ll leave you with the words of C.H. Spurgeon in his message “The Blood of Sprinkling and the Children:”

Brethren, I do not think a man ought to hear a minister preach three sermons without learning the doctrine of atonement.  I give wide latitude when I say this, for I would desire never to preach at all without setting forth salvation by faith in the blood of Jesus.  Across my pulpit and my tabernacle shall be the mark of the blood; it will disgust the enemy, but it will delight the faithful.  Substitution seems to me to be the soul of the gospel, the life of the gospel, the essence of the gospel; therefore must it be ever in the front…I charge you, Christian people, do not make this a secondary doctrine…The center of Christianity is the cross, and the meaning of the cross is substitution.

LET’S STOP SHALLOW SOULWINNING IN IT’S TRACKS!  LET’S PREACH THE GOSPEL AS CLEARLY AND PLAINLY AS WE CAN!  LET’S PREACH FAITH IN THE BLOOD!!!  LET’S TEACH SINNERS TO CALL UPON GOD “IN TRUTH” BY FAITH FROM THE HEART!!!

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?…                                                                                                                -  Romans 10:13,14

September - October 2006

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Greetings from the United States of America!  We returned safely home on the 14th of September, exhausted from a long day of flying from Honduras, to Costa Rica, to Panama, to Miami.

RESTING

We spent our first two weeks on furlough partaking of some much needed rest.  My wife’s parents were nice enough to give us a week’s stay at their condo in Orlando, Florida, and then took us on a cruise to the Bahamas.  What a relaxing trip!

TRAVELING

Our vacation didn’t last long, however, as the entire month of October, we spent traveling through Tennessee, New Jersey, and Iowa with meetings all along the way.

WINNING SOULS

In Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, I preached on the subject of “When It Hurts To Be Separated.”  Afterwards, two youngsters walked the aisle, desiring to be saved.  I had the opportunity to personally lead eleven-year-old Steven Jackson, and nine-year-old Diandre Nix to the Lord afterwards!  What a blessing!  (See picture on back).

MAKING PLANS

While back in the states, we have a lot to do.  Please pray for us, as we have many important decisions to make in the next couple of months.  We also desire to upgrade my website, and make it nicer, as well as add a lot more information.

LETTING YOU KNOW

All our calendar is still not completely filled, so please contact me at the phone number above if you desire to invite me in to preach.  I have slides from the work in Honduras, and am anxious to preach in English!

Because He shed every drop for even me,

            Robert and Laurabeth Breaker

August 2006

Dear fellow countrymen, brothers in Christ, and prayer partners,

As I’m sure you all know, Satan’s plan of unifying the world with the UN at the head is quickly coming to pass.  Not only has Europe unified, but so has Central America.  All that lacks is the Unification of the Americas, and the antichrist will be that much closer to uniting the world under his control after the rapture.
This unification process makes it hard on us.  My wife and I went to the Immigration office here this month, and we learned that we can’t travel to the borders of Guatemala, El Salvador, or Nicaragua anymore to get Laura’s Residence Visa renewed.  They told us, “The new borders of Honduras (as part of the Unified Central America) are now Mexico and Costa Rica.”  So we’ll have to make other arrangements.  The best course of action will be to work towards getting a permanent Residency for Laura.  This is a costly and trying endeavor.  Please pray this would go smoothly.

Now on to better news.  On the 20th, we held a baptism service in the new church building at New Hope Baptist Church.  I baptized five people, my wife included (how many Missionaries get to say they baptized their wife?).  The others were: Neftali and Alfa Sanchez, Melkis Hernandez, and Marlon Lopez.  (See pictures on back!)  Neftali, a police man, says God is dealing with him about being a preacher.  Amen!

August 24th, I celebrated five years in this country.  I can hardly believe that time has gone by so quickly!

The 28th we visited a Mormon family and witnessed to them.  They had been members of the LDS for three years, but didn’t know much of what they taught.  We showed them many of the errors in the Mormon Church, and left them some material to read.  They invited us back later, and we showed them the film “The Godmakers.”  Afterwards they seemed a little disturbed that their religion taught that they could become gods.  We made a lot of headway with them, and they seem to be open to truth.  Please pray that this family will get saved and leave the Moron (er, I mean Mormon) church.

As previously stated, we have a brief furlough planned to the states.  We leave the 14th of September and return around the end of January.  We have a lot of meetings during this time, and a lot to do.  But we still have some openings in December.  If you’d like me to come in, please email me at XXXXXXXXXXXXX.

            Through His blood,

AN INSPIRING STORY

Will Borden, who attended Yale University years ago (when it was still a Christian college) is a great example of a Christian man who surrendered all to serve the Lord.
While in school, God dealt with him about being a Missionary to Egypt.  He then surrendered his life to do so.  He was a rich young man and had a big trust fund from his parent’s business.  But while in college, he decided to give up his fortune, trusting rather upon God than riches.  He then wrote in the flyleaf of his Bible “No Reserves.”
After graduation, his parents tried to get him to take over the family business.  He told them that he could not, as he was going to Egypt as a Missionary.  They then told him that they’d hold the position for him, knowing he would not like it there and would soon return.  Determined to devote his life to God and serve him in Egypt, he then wrote in the front of his Bible “No Return.”
In Egypt, Will Borden never started one church, nor did he even train one convert.  For there, he contacted a horrible disease and died.  His body was then shipped back to America, and the funeral was held in Yale University.  So moving was the eulogy sermon that twelve young men surrendered their lives to go to Egypt as Missionaries!
After the funeral, someone found Will Borden’s Bible and opened the flyleaf.  Under the two entries given above were the words, “No Regrets.”  He must have written this when he was dying of an incurable disease.  He gave up fame, fortune, fellowship, and even his life.  But his final words were “NO REGRETS!”  For he knew that his service for the King of Glory would be well rewarded!  Can you too, Christian, truly say you have no regrets?  Have you done enough for Jesus?

June - July 2006

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Greetings again from the mountains of Intibucá, Honduras!  These two months have really been chalked full of blessings and surprises!  I have so much to report and so little space, so I’ll try to summarize as much as possible.

On June 13th, my wife got saved!  She thought she was a Christian most of her life, but that evening she couldn’t sleep, struggling with the question of her salvation all night long.  She then woke me up early in the morning and told me, “I wasn’t saved before, but now I am!  This surprised me, so I questioned her about it.  She then told me, “I realized that all my life I’d been trusting in what I did rather than in what Jesus did for me.  I finally quit trusting in what I did, and rested upon the finished work and precious shed blood of Jesus Christ to save my soul.  Now I know I’m saved!  I’m enclosing her testimony in her own words with this prayer letter, so you can read it for yourself.  She puts it much better than I can!

On June 15th, I led thirty-year-old Nicolasa Mejia Hernandez to the Lord after services in Quebrada de Lajas!

June 27th to July 5th we spent in Guatemala with Missionary Carlos Donate.  He invited me to preach in his various works, and God blessed with souls saved.  After Wednesday night service in Guatemala City on the 28th, I personally led Nelson Alberto Barrera, 20, to the Lord.  With tears in his eyes, he trusted the blood of Jesus Christ to save his soul. What a blessing!

July 1st, we visited in the little town of El Socorro in the scorching, hot Guatemalan sun close to the Pacific Coast.  Sweating profusely, I witnessed to many people, but they didn’t want to be saved.  Bro. Donate told me afterwards that this was a hard area, full of very sinful people, and they needed a lot of prayer.

The second of July, I preached Sunday morning service for Bro. Saul Garcia, a pastor ordained out of Bro. Donate’s church, in the small area of Tinco, outside of Guatemala City.  Tinco is the Mayan word for heaven.  Praise be to God, I led four souls to Jesus Christ during the invitation, and now they are on their way to Heaven for real!  It was a father and his three daughters.  Their names are: Nolverto Antonio Camel, 39, Oralia Yessenia Camel, 16, Suly Nineth Camel,13, Carmen Veronica Camel, 15.  (It’s funny that their last name is Camel.  Laura and I joked later that I led a bunch of Camels to heaven).

In the afternoon, Bro. Donate took us to the little village of Puente Nuevo (close to the town of Cuilapa in the area of Santa Rosa), where Bro. Paulo Dieguez (sent from Bro. Donate’s church) is starting a Mission.  While there Bro. Donate baptized two boys, who had recently gotten saved.  Afterwards we visited with the natives in the area.  I was surprised at all the wickedness in this little town.  It’s full of prostitution, robberies, murders, and more.  One story greatly disturbed me.  A mother in the village was selling her thirteen-year-old daughter into prostitution.  We meet them and I encouraged them to come to service.  The little girl came, but her mother made her leave.  How sad that a mother could be so wicked!  What kind of mother does that with her daughter?

That evening service, I preached on the subject of “What Salvation Is.”  My points were that it’s 1. Gratis (Free), 2. Grande (Great), and 3. Gozoso (Joyful).  They had two loudspeakers on top of the church, and the whole neighbourhood heard my message.  I tried to preach as hard as I could and stress the need to be born again.  When I gave an invitation, no one came forward.  I then said, “All of you that are already saved, please raise your hand.  Some did, but I noticed several young teenage girls did not.  I then looked them straight in the eyes and asked, “Don’t you want to be saved today?  They all shook their heads no.  What a shame!  Please pray for this sinful area.

Returning to Honduras, we received the most wonderful news.  In our absence, Erick Sanchez, a native Missionary who helps us here, led two people to the Lord in Quebrada de Lajas on the 29th of June!

On July 8th, I met the team from Tulsa, Oklahoma who came to visit Missionary Mike Lane and help him with the church building.  They were very nice, and I translated for Bro. Mark Shivers, who preached our Saturday night Youth Group meeting.

In the month of July, I celebrated two birthdays.  On the 13th, I turned 32 years old physically, and the 29th, I turned 14 spiritually.

Thinking about my wife’s testimony and how probably the greatest sin of modern Christianity today is omitting the blood of Jesus Christ in their presentation of the Gospel, I sat down on July 20th and wrote a hymn entitled, “I Trust the Blood.”  I’m not good at music, but I did have training on the piano as a kid.  With my violin, I played the tune that kept passing through my head, and carefully wrote down the notes.  Enclosed with this prayer letter is my hymn.  I only wrote the treble cleft, as I don’t know much about the bass.  If anyone could add the notes in the bass, and then mail it to me, it would be greatly appreciated!

July 22nd, I showed my slide show on Creation vs. Evolution to our young people during our Saturday night youth meetings.  As I’ve reported before, I plan to enter into schools and churches with different slide presentations, doing the work of an evangelist.  Please pray for this endeavour.

July 24th, a group from Texas came down for a week to visit Bro. Mike Lane and to help paint the church.  While here, I invited them to go with me to Quebrada de Lajas.  They did some visitation and sang during service.  Andrew, the Youth Pastor of one of the churches represented preached while I translated.

So the months of June and July were full of fruit, fun, and fellowship.  I wish every month on the Mission Field was the same!   Thanks again for all your continued prayers and support, for this is what makes our effort possible for the Lord.

Because of Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour,

My Wife’s Testimony of Salvation
By Laura Beth Breaker

A few years ago, I read a tract entitled “The Other Jesus,” by Ovid Need Jr.  It explained how one is not saved by simply praying “Jesus, please come into my heart and save me.”  I never heard this until that day.  I said that prayer when I was five years old.  And as “assurance,” I prayed it again at age thirteen and a few other times before I read this tract.
The tract explained further that salvation is only by trusting in the finished work and shed blood of Jesus Christ.  Despite this truth, I justified my experience of praying when I was five by saying to myself that I believed Jesus died to save me and that God knew what was in my heart.  I thought that even if I didn’t fully understand the gospel when I was five, surely I did before I asked God to save me again when I was thirteen.
But nonetheless after I read this tract, I prayed in my heart, “Lord God, if I’m not saved, I’m trusting only in the finished work on Calvary right now,” (just to cover all my bases).  I did this again about a half a dozen times over the next couple of years.
I didn’t realize then that my prayers of “assurance” showed I had doubts.  But my “ifs” proved I still held onto believing I was saved when I was five.
Then one day I read a tract called, “The Bloodless Gospel.”  It showed how the ecumenical, modernists preach that someone is saved by simply “turning their life over to God,” or “making a commitment to Christ.”   But this is not the plan of salvation, even if one heard that Christ died for their sins.  I questioned within myself, “Was what I did similar to this apostate teaching?”
The next day another such tract came across my hands.  Written in the 1800’s it was called, “No Forgiveness Without Blood,” by T. T. Martin.  I quote the tract:

When one faces the question of his sins and realizes that he deserves just punishment, one of the first impulses is to pray and beg God to be let off, to be forgiven.  Alas!  Much of the religious instruction to the sinner is to the same effect.  Many feel that God forgives the sinner because he begs to be forgiven instead of because he accepts and relies upon the atoning death of Christ as his Substitute… [However] Every transgression must have a ‘just recompense of reward.’ … A man who has violated the state law comes before the judge, confesses his sin and begs the judge to forgive him, to let him off; and calls men from the audience to come and help him beg.  The judge replies, ‘If I should yield to these petitions I would be a perjurer; I would trample on law.  Every transgression must receive a just recompense of reward.’  Would that all could realize that every prayer from sinner, priest or preacher for a sinner to be forgiven, let off, is a prayer to God to become a perjurer…they would then realize their real need of a Saviour, a Redeemer.

When I read this, the truth finally sunk in.  This was exactly what I had done when I was five years old.  I may have heard the right gospel, (i.e. Jesus Christ died to save me) but in my heart I thought that if I believed what He did for me and if I only asked God to save me, he would, knowing the sincerity of my desire that I wanted to be saved.  I had the right gospel, but the wrong plan of salvation.  Asking and trusting are conflicting ideas.  Really it was faith plus works although I didn’t recognize it for that at the time.
But, I managed to shrug all that off too as since then I have said within my heart that even IF I was not saved then, I am trusting in his blood now and that’s what counts.
The very next day I heard a story of a ten-year-old boy who went to vacation Bible school and prayed and asked Jesus to come into his heart and save him. He was so excited that he went and told his grandfather about it.  But after some discussion and studying of the Bible this ten-year-old boy realized he was not saved at all by asking God to save him no matter how sincere he was.  And so it was right then that he put his faith in nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
The day after this, I was reading a church newsletter with an article about this very same subject.  A preacher, who had asked Jesus into his heart when he was five, went to the mission field.  After doing some studying the subject of salvation in the Bible he realized he wasn’t saved at all and finally put his faith solely in the shed blood of Jesus to save his soul.
I couldn’t sleep that night. I stayed up for hours thinking on these things and how I’ve tried to justify what I had believed for salvation.  I then realized there was no way I could have been saved when I was five, or when I was 13 or any other time when I prayed and asked God to save me.  Why then, when I learned the truth of what salvation was, was I still praying, “IF I’m not saved…”  My “ifs” proved to me that I still held onto the idea that I was saved when I was five, when I was not.
It wasn’t until this night (June 13th, 2006) that I rejected all my prayers and all my sincerity for salvation.  It wasn’t until this night that I realized I was lost!  Finally there was nothing left for me to rest in for salvation but the FINISHED work of Jesus on the cross - that is, His shed blood.  That’s when I took God at his word, and received Him by faith.  And I didn’t even have to manifest that faith with a prayer.
All those other times that I had said a prayer within myself, I never told anyone about it.  I thought it was just as well that people kept believing what I already told them about when I supposedly got saved.  But this night I couldn’t keep it to myself.  I had to wake my husband and tell him that I just got saved.  And now I have to tell my friends and family about it too.
Many are deceived like I was.  It is as if Jesus is saying, “Look, I’ve done the work already needed to save you.  There’s the blood on the altar.  All you have to do is trust in that work.  Do you?  And one responds, “Jesus, I know you died on the cross to save me, now will you save me?  Or, “I’m trusting that you will save me if I want to be saved - God I want to be saved!  Or, “God save me! Or, “Lord God, you gave your life for me, now I give my life to you.  Please save me today.”   Or, “Jesus will you come into my heart and save me?  Or, “God please forgive my sins and save me.  These are all false plans of salvation.  And Jesus is still left saying, “I’ve DONE the work needed to save you! I’ve already shed my blood for you. Will you just trust in that cleansing blood?   Yet still someone asks, “ Jesus, will you save me?
Just knowing what the Gospel is isn’t salvation. Sincerely admitting to God your damnation without Him and your desire to be saved isn’t either.   Nor is just begging him to save you.  Only faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, that is, His shed, cleansing blood, is salvation.
Knowing that Jesus died for you is not the plan of salvation.  You can believe in your mind, not in your heart.  Inviting Jesus into your life is not, according to the Bible, the plan God set forth for salvation either. (Christ does dwell in the heart of a believer by faith according to Ephesians 3:17, but not by asking or inviting).  God has set forth Jesus to be our salvation through faith in His blood.  Rom. 3:25 states clearly, “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood…” Jesus only becomes our personal Saviour when we accept his finished work by faith.  Not when we ask him to be our Saviour, and not when we beg him to do so.
After having my eyes opened to that fact, I went through my husband’s big box of tracts to see what each one had to say about how to get saved.  99.5% of them said something to this affect:

If you’ve never received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, bow your head this minute and ask Jesus to save you.”

I couldn’t believe it.  Could so many “Christians” really be so deceived as I was?   I used to think that almost everyone who was saved had doubts occasionally.  But now I can see that a lot of people, who think they are saved by this method, AREN’T.  No wonder they have doubts!
I know there may be some people who read this and will say that I was saved the whole time.  They will think I’m probably mixed up in some cult religion that tries to talk people out of their salvation.  They may be angry at me for writing at all and encouraging suspicion in the minds of others about their own salvation.  But it is for those people who have had doubts that I am writing this.  The Bible tells us to examine our hearts in 2 Corinthians 13:5 when it says, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves…”
I now know that I am saved.  I have no doubts.  I know that I know that I know that I’m saved the Biblical way, by grace through faith in the blood of Jesus.  How about you?

May 2006

Dear Fellow labourers in the work of the Lord,

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
                                                                                                      - Philippians  1:2-4

Greetings again from Honduras!  God is good and is keeping us busy here, as well as blessing us with some fruit!  This month we’ve traveled, preached, prayed, fasted, and more.  And what a blessing that it was not all for naught, as God just continues to bless us!  We are so thankful!

SEEING SOULS SAVED

On the fourteenth, I had the wonderful opportunity to win Francisca Elizabet Garcia, 14, and her cousin Iris Argentina Meza, 9 to the Lord after services in our little church in Quebrada de Lajas.  Unfortunately their parents are Catholic and don’t allow them to come to services often.  Please pray that their parents will trust Christ as their Saviour, so the whole family can come.
Also, on the 27th, Rueben Antonio Quintero, 17, trusted Jesus as his personal Saviour on our Saturday afternoon Church visitation when Arlen Padilla won him to the Lord.

SPEAKING ON THE SUBJECT OF THE LAW vs. GRACE

The 19th-20th we traveled to the little village of Piraera (close to the El Salvador border) where National Missionary Erick Sanchez is working.  There, at his invitation, I taught on the subject of the Law vs. Grace.  Erick visited the town several weeks before inviting people, and we had a crowd of about twenty to thirty people who came to listen.
The village is mostly Catholic, but the Seventh Day Adventists are also a strong presence there.  Because of this, many people think that one must keep the law to be saved.  I taught all day long on why this is not the case, and how salvation is by grace through faith in the precious shed blood of Jesus Christ!
In the evening, I showed my Creation vs. Evolution slide show.  We had an even bigger crowd for that!  My plan is to do more evangelism, and eventually get into public schools with these slides.  Please pray for this endeavor, as we try to schedule this.

SELLING OUR THINGS

As most of you know, we have to leave our rental house before the end of the year, so we are already working hard in getting rid of many of our things, making our move easier.  It’s amazing how much a person can accumulate in five years!

SETTING UP MEETINGS

Our plan is to head back to the states towards the end of this year for several months.  We already have some meetings set up then for furlough, and we’d like to get some more.  Then we’ll come back to Honduras in January to fill in for the other Missionary who’s leaving and live in his house for a while.   On the back of this letter, I’ll give my itinerary.  If we’re close by and have an opening, we’d love for you to contact us so we can visit your church and present the work here in Honduras.  (Via Email is the best way to contact me!)

Because of Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour,

Sign on the wall in one of the shops here that says: “In the old times of barbarous nations, they used to hang thieves on crosses, but now in our age of enlightenment, crosses hang from the necks of thieves!”  How true!
