Dear Beloved in the Lord,
Being a Missionary has its ups and downs. There are times when I am overcome with joy and gladness that God has called me here to tell others the good news of salvation through the glorious Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But then on the other side of the coin, many times I find myself discouraged, downcast, and miserable, as it seems the harder I try, the more things go wrong. Yet through it all, I take comfort in knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ is always with me, for he hath said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5), even if things don’t go the way I hope.
“For Nelson hath forsaken me having loved this present world, and is departed unto Olancho.”
We lost our church building this month. The landlord was a real wicked man, and told us that he desired us to move. We tried to find another building, but had no luck. Nelson and Zenia moved to another area, and I continued Bible Studies with them. But one Sunday, when I went to visit them, I was shocked to hear the news that Nelson had run away with a young lady to Olancho and left Zenia two days before they were supposed to be married. This news hit like a ton of bricks! How could Nelson do such a thing?
I took Zenia to one of the area Baptist Churches and helped her to get situated in a good Bible Believing church. It’s rather far from her house, but she is willing to travel in order to continue studying and grow in the Lord. Please pray for her, as this is a hard time for her and her three-year-old daughter Marjorie.
In spite of the crushing developments in Tegucigalpa, things are going surprisingly well in the little “pueblo” (town) of “Quebrada de Lajas,” close to where I live. We have service every Thursday night, and I’m enjoying visiting during the week and getting to know the people. Several times I’ve gone hunting with some of the native people. Once, we shot a dove and a woodpecker with a .22 rifle. (I kept thinking, “I’d love to see the faces of some of those ‘Waco Environmentalists” after we shot them. But here it is not illegal, nor are they even close to becoming extinct).
I’ve also enjoyed playing Doctor, as I have helped many of the village people with medicine and medical care. One young man named Nazario cut his foot open with an axe while chopping firewood. It was an awesome experience for me to kneel before this Indian man and wash and dress his foot in bandages after applying a ton of Triple Antibiotic Ointment. (He healed quickly, and was back to work in less than a week).
On the 28th, I visited the little village of “Los Dolores” (literally in English “The Pains”) in the department of “Lempira” with Jose Martir and his companion Blanca. We had a great time visiting, passing out tracts and bibles, and telling others about the Lord Jesus Christ.
So, even though things have fallen apart in Tegucigalpa, I’m happy to report that they seem to be going well in Quebrada de Lajas. We had about 20 people last week, and many of them are not saved, yet they wish to come and listen. I even had one man raise his hand during service and say, “I’m not saved, does that mean I can’t come? Because I would really like to keep coming.” I assured him that he was always welcome, and we wanted him to come and listen to the Gospel, for we wished him to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour.
“Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.” (2 Corinthians 13:11)
