Dear Fellow Prayer Partners,
There is so much news, and so little room to relay it all to you, so we’ll just give you the highlights. God has been too good to us these past months, and we’ve been blessed with plenty of opportunities to serve Him. We’ve even had the pleasure of taking the Gospel to places that have never heard it before!
NOVEMBER
The 5th-9th, Laura substituted for another Missionary’s wife in a Christian Bilingual School here in La Esperanza, Intibucá, Honduras. She taught 25 rowdy kindergarteners. Her exact words were, “Never again!”
The 22nd (Thanksgiving), we traveled to San Pedro Sula and I preached for Pastor Alex Vasquez, a Bible Believing Pastor in the small subdivision of Cerro Verde.
The 23rd-26th, we traveled by bus to Guatemala City, Guatemala, where I preached a Sunday Service for Missionary Carlos Donate, who’s in the states on a short furlough. I also visited and preached in the Baptist Church in Tinco. How awesome to see people in both works that I’d led to Christ there over a year ago growing in the Lord.
DECEMBER
The first of this month we traveled with Missionary Erick Sanchez to the small town of Minas de Oro (Gold Mines), a part of Honduras I’ve never been. There we passed out tracts, and spent the night with Erick’s family. Please pray for his lost father Santiago Bonilla. We plan to return to this area in January and evangelize more.
The 12th-15th, we journeyed to the small town of Piraera, which we’ve visited several times already. From there we traveled to a mountain village named El Joril, where to our knowledge no one has never heard the Gospel before. We visited house to house, and I preached in the community building on two separate evenings to a crowd of about one hundred people. The next evening, Erick Sanchez led three souls to Christ!
I also preached one evening and taught one morning in the Baptist Church in the mountain village of San Sebastian (outside of Piraera) for pastor Florentino Aguilar. Before giving my sermon, I was stung in the back of the neck by a four-and-half inch long scorpion! Have you ever tried to preach when you can’t feel your lips or tongue? The effects of it’s venom lasted well over 24 hours, and eventually made my whole body fall asleep (It was so bad, I couldn’t even walk!). However, the next morning I felt able enough to teach for three hours about the doctrines of Salvation, Soul winning, and the Local Church (although I still couldn’t feel my lips). Thank God that Honduras only has brown scorpions, and not the deadly black ones!
With a generator, (as there is no electricity in the area) we also showed one of my teaching videos about the errors of the Roman Catholic Church. About a hundred people came, most of them lost Catholics. Many became angry, and left, but those who stayed heard the Gospel thereafter. Some even asked questions.
The angry ones manifested their disdain by placing lines of large, jagged rocks in the road so our truck could not pass. We had to get out half a dozen times and move them in order to leave the area and drive back home.
Finally, I preached in the church we started here in La Esperanza, on the 23rd. My message was, “The Gospel from a Piece of Candy,” and I showed the Gospel from a Candy Cane (see back of letter for details). At the invitation Norma Isidro Vasquez came forward, and I personally led her to the Lord! Afterwards, we had dinner on the grounds, and enjoyed a great time of fellowship!
